The device for the destruction of unmanned vehicles – the non-lethal rifle REX-1 of the Kalashnikov Concern, which was presented at the forum “Army-2017”, could soon be introduced into the arsenal of the Russian army and power agencies. The state tests of the REX-1 radio-electronic gun should begin in 2018. According to the Kalashnikov concern, the power agencies of Russia showed interest in weapons designed to destroy unmanned aircraft. In this regard, the developer hopes for a speedy start to mass production.

At the international forum “Army-2017” held in the second half of August, “Kalashnikov” held a presentation of the REX-1. In the presence of spectators, employees of the concern disrupted small quadrocopters, hovering in the air at an altitude of 20-30 meters.

Means of electronic warfare

“Kalashnikov” – one of the pioneers in the development of Russian electronic non-lethal weapons. Externally, REX-1 resembles a blaster of fantastic films. However, the novelty of the concern is more modest in size and can not cause harm to a person.

REX-1 does not belong to the category of small arms. This is an easy means of electronic warfare (EW). A conventional shot here replaces the microwave pulse (microwave radiation).

On the footage of the video, which was published on August 21, “Kalashnikov”, servicemen send the REX-1 to the enemy’s quadrocopter. The night sky illuminates a bright flash from the gun, and the crashed drone begins to drop. Then, with the help of a gun, military personnel block the work of the car’s electronics, in which, according to legend, the criminal is located.

“The weapon has a built-in suppression module that drowns in the radius of five kilometers the signals of the US satellite navigation GPS, Russian GLONASS, Chinese BeiDou and European Galileo,” the specialists of the concern explain.

REX-1 is also capable of jamming mobile communications, 3G and LTE signals at a distance of a kilometer. In addition, the device can interfere with frequencies of 900 Mhz, 2.4 GHz, 5.2-5.8 GHz.

“REX-1 removes the drone from the system, but it does not damage it physically – the aircraft loses its connection with the remote control and lands smoothly,” they say in Kalashnikov.

The REX-1 design includes six basic elements: built-in power supply, sight, replaceable signal suppression units, tactical handle, bipods, attachments, which can consist of a stroboscope, a visible laser and an objective control device (DVR).
